Today, Jeff and I have been married for 16 years. I don’t really have a big emotional post to write with this, because I’ve already said a lot about what a wonderful man I’ve married. I just wanted to celebrate.
I do have a short story for you.
A little over a week ago, I had a horrible allergic reaction to something. I have no clue what, but a good portion of my legs were covered in a rash and hives, and it hurt to sit, and I itched everywhere, and I was miserable.
I know what you’re about to say, well why didn’t you put something on it?
I’m allergic to most topical anti-itch medicines. Topical Benadryl gave me a rash. Hydrocortisone broke me out in hives and sent me to the ER last time.
Calamine lotion somewhat works, but not super well.
After bite is amazing, but not for this.
I don’t have a lot of options.
As I lay in a bath soaking, Jeff was researching. He found some suggestions of things I could do.
The next morning I was miserable. I hadn’t slept because every time I moved I was fighting not to scratch a newly discovered itch, AND it all hurt.
He bundled the kids off to church, and while he was gone got stuff to cook for the day, and he bought the best thing he’d found to help me. It was a colloidal oatmeal soak. You take a bath and just lay blissfully in the oatmeal bath.
To understand why this is a big deal, years ago when the boys were little I’d read about using oatmeal baths for diaper rash, but Jeff wasn’t excited by this idea because of the residue it might leave in our jetted tub.
That day he bought me this colloidal oatmeal, and he put aside his worry of the effect on our house and got what was needed to make me feel better.
That’s a servant leader, and that is the type of man I want to raise my boys to be.
So, I love you Jeff Messing, and I look forward to another 16 years together.
